Melanie Skipper-Relyea has more than 20 years of mental health experience.
Melanie holds a Masters in Human Relations, is a Licensed Professional Counselor and is a National Certified Counselor. Licensed since 1998, she has worked extensively in the areas of family violence-related trauma with children, adolescents, adults, couples and families. Melanie’s work experience includes hotline support, drug treatment, foster care, group therapy, and working with court-mandated families. She has lived and practiced in the Dallas area since 1999.

What to Expect
Sessions are 45 minutes long.
Your first session will be focused on your full psycho-social history and goals you wish to achieve
If your issues are beyond my expertise or necessitate treatment with other professionals, referral options will be discussed with you
The average attendance in therapy is 8 sessions, but shorter or longer-term treatment can be accommodated.
Techniques
You will be asked to do exercises : both inside the session and outside. These may include journal writing, communication exercises and role- play. Children will likely receive play therapy that is focused on their issues. Parents of adolescents and children can be expected to have conferences before every appointment to ask questions and help ensure that sessions work on current goals.
